Biography
Dr Christopher J. Watterson is a Research Fellow with the Foreign Policy and Defence Program at the United States Studies Centre. His research focuses on nuclear non-proliferation, sanctions enforcement, and maritime security, with a regional focus on Northeast Asia.
Chris has led major research projects on strategic trade controls, foreign direct investment in critical infrastructure, and DPRK sanctions evasion. His work has been published in leading journals such as Marine Policy and The Nonproliferation Review, and featured in outlets including The National Interest, Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists, and the Council on Foreign Relations.
Chris has secured and delivered upon more than A$1.7 million in research funding from various international sources and has presented his research to multiple national government agencies in Europe, the Indo-Pacific, and the Americas, and to specialist agencies in the United Nations.
Chris has a PhD from the University of Sydney, a Master of International Security from the University of Sydney, and a Bachelor of Science (Honours) from the University of Newcastle, Australia.
